Albatross Cove

Unit 18 Lot 33; TOT ID# 1597. The Albatross Cove Home at The Sea Ranch takes full advantage of coastal living with its unobstructed blue-water ocean views and sheltered outdoor spaces. Windows are positioned to let in maximum natural light and capture both the ridge and oceanfront views. The interior finishes are contemporary and warm echoing the surrounding natural landscape.

This three bedroom house includes a large living area with a large flat screen TV, fireplace and a chef inspired kitchen. The master wing features a king bed with a large window seat looking out towards the ocean. The modern master bath is lovely with two sinks and a dual headed shower. The outdoor spa can be accessed from the master bathroom as well as the garden courtyard. The spa area offers privacy, an outdoor shower and another view of the ocean.

The guest wing includes a laundry room, a second bath and two more bedrooms. One bedroom holds a second king bed and the third bedroom includes two twin beds. Both of these bedrooms look out at the garden courtyard and the ocean beyond.
This home features three large flat screen televisions with streaming and surround sound wall speakers in living room. Free high-speed internet and free nationwide long distance telephone service are also included.

Hiking, biking, and beach play are just outside the large glass doors. A 5 minute walk leads to the Marine Preserve, a good place to observe the seals as well as the tide pools. The Ohlson Ranch Recreation Center is a nearby 10 minute walk with swimming pool, sauna, tennis & volleyball courts as well as beach access. The Albatross Cove Home is a tranquil destination that easily accommodates both active engagement and calm respite.

Bed linens and towels are not provided, bring your own or rent them from Beach Rentals. ($20 per person)

  This beautifully designed house sits near but not on the bluff with a nice view of the ocean. But the stay is spoiled, at least for those of us who care about such things, by the fact that it is furnished as cheaply as possible (e.g. the dining table and chairs are really outdoor furniture, the bedstands are plastic). There's no art on the large blank walls and no books anywhere. You need to provide sheets and towels and the bedspread could scarcely be more cheap and drab, and the pillows need Mr. Pillow! We all found it very odd, given the high rental price and our experience with other Sea Ranch rentals. On the plus side, the kitchen is well appointed. But even that is spoiled by the multiple sticky notes (also in the rest of the house) threatening you with extra costs if, e.g. food scraps fall down the disposal, you change the thermostat settings (which were not high enough when the cold front moved in). Not unreasonable for an owner to provide information/directions but all of these are couched in a threatening fashion. We ended up wanting to buy the house and give it the love it deserves.

  Only problem is the smoke alarms came on every time we cooked but we learned is you turn on the fan to 2 you had no problem. All in all very enjoyable, especially all the different wild life, we had many deer, two fox, baby turkeys, raccoon, and on two occasions whales.

  Albatross Cove was very spacious and comfortable for our family. Location was great for access to the water and hiking. A few things needed repairs, but the biggest surprise was when the microwave glass shattered for no apparent reason as we were enjoying our last breakfast.

  We've stayed at a number of rental homes at the Sea Ranch and this is one of our favorites. Location is fabulous and the view is both beautiful peaceful with the combination of ocean and prairie and plenty of windows. Also loved relaxing in the hot tub and night while looking up at the millions of stars.
  We will likely stay here again, however some improvements are needed to make this a 5-star experience. While essentially clean, there were more than the usual spiders and spider webs throughout the home. The sectional couch smells like it has not been cleaned in a very long time. The dishwasher tends to leave a residue on all dishes and glasses. The sound system is great but it would be even better if there was a way to connect a mobile device. And since the Sea Ranch pools do not provide towels, it would be be appreciated if extra towels were provided beyond what's needed for the bathroom.

  We rented two houses, Albatross Cove and the house next door (Durham). It was great to go back and forth between the houses with all 13 of us (10 adults and 3 kids). Very modern design and a great view of the ocean. The only downside is that no linens (bed sheets, towels, etc) are provided. For the price, would have appreciated linens. The ocean view trials are very close and several walkable beaches including small tide pools and a seal viewing area.

  We really enjoyed the design and furnishings of this home. Very clean and well maintained. Nice location and easy trail access. We enjoyed watching whales off the coast from the patio which was a first in our 25 years of visits to SR. The kitchen was a nice design with high-end appliances but needed a bit more equipment including knives that actually cut something. The stereo/TV system was overly complicated and didn't seem worth the effort once we figured it out. The only real issue that we had was the numerous instruction/warning labels all over the home. The hot tub cover instruction label was actually threatening. But let's not get away from the most important part, this is a very well designed home without compromise on the furnishings. We will likely visit again (with our own knives). Dog friendly would be a great addition!

  This home is more beautiful than the pictures. The property is very contemporary, with great views of the ocean. It's clean, well maintained and has nice amenities (wine fridge, televisions in every room, etc.).
  
  I will say that the televisions were a little tricky to figure out because one (very fancy) remote controlled all of them. We nearly called in a rocket scientist to get our movie to play, but after a day, we somehow figured it out. Lol.
  
  The only real "bummer" was that our next door neighbors were quite raucous and partied a little harder than most folks do out at quiet, serene Sea Ranch. But that was very unusual and I don't anticipate that happening very often (if ever again).

  This is the ideal property for fans of Dwell magazine. The home design takes into account every detail - surfaces, hardware, radiant heating, open floor plan, natural light, and the view (or not) of the ocean from the jacuzzi. I loved being here and didn't leave until the stroke of 12:00noon to take advantage of every last minute.
  
  The house is short on dishtowels and serving platters, so I think I'll bring a few towels as a gift when I visit again.

  This home was different from the many rentals we've stayed in at Sea Ranch in that it is very modern and zen-like. Concrete floors, bare walls, no adornment, no things of the owners in view. I found it extremely relaxing and calming while others found it a bit too sparse. The house has a stunning view -- eating meals felt like sitting in the meadow with all the floor to ceiling windows. The kitchen was less equipped than most (we like to cook) but everything else was lovely. We'd definitely go back.

  Very clean and modern house with exquisite attention to detail on the design and functionality of the space: sliding pocket doors to separate various areas of the house for privacy and sound, radiant floor heating, excellent kitchen. Hot tub was fantastic - best one at Sea Ranch! Good location but a little walk to closest beach. Only negative was that the tvs and wireless Internet did not work as expected. AV is an integrated whole house system that was very confusing to use despite detailed directions. Was able to listen to cds and ipod but could not get tvs to work correctly. Wireless Internet never worked. Not all bad though because its good to have an electronics-free vacation at Sea Ranch. Would give house 5 stars except that av did not work as promised so only 4 stars.
